Cody Simpson Interview
Cody Simpson is a 19-year-old Australian singer, songwriter, and actor. Most recently, he carried the Olympic torch in Rio with sister Alli. Both Alli and Cody Simpson were once competitive swimmers. In fact, Cody still holds several records in his native Australia.
Before I interviewed Cody Simpson, I asked my 11-year-old daughter what she wanted to hear from the mega-popular 16-year-old Australian pop star. “Ask him how hard he had to work to get famous,” she said.
Turns out, Simpson had to work pretty darn hard.
“A lot of people underestimate it,” Simpson told Your Teen. “You have to work as hard as possible and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way . . . and if you fail, you have to try again.”
That’s something Simpson first learned as champion swimmer. “That taught me a lot about it,” Simpson explained.
Simpson was once dubbed the Australian Justin Bieber, because, like Bieber he was discovered by a record executive on YouTube. When he was 12, he recorded videos of himself singing pop songs by Justin Timberlake, the Jackson Five and others, as well as his own music.
These days, Simpson is taking a break from his solo career to focus on his new band, Coast House Collective, and record label, Coast House Records. His newest album, Free, was released in 2015. He’s also been acting, most recently appearing in the final season of ABC’s popular sitcom Cougar Town.
