If there is a word that has defined this past month, it might be “pivot”. COVID-19 has been a game changer in every sense of the word, requiring almost every person and organization to adjust to a new reality, with almost no time to prepare.
For more than a dozen years, parents have turned to Your Teen Magazine as a trusted source of advice, comfort, and guidance in the care and raising of teenagers. Given the unprecedented challenges that families face, at no time has the need for that information and advice been more pressing. The disruptions to teenagers’ lives have been seismic, and the rules about how to parent teenagers no longer apply.
In the wake of these challenges, the editorial team of Your Teen Magazine did what we all must do: pivot.
The co-founders and publishers of Your Teen Media, Susan Borison and Stephanie Silverman, made a quick decision to replace their regularly scheduled May/June print magazine with a special, FREE digital magazine devoted completely to the topic of Parenting in a Pandemic, with dedicated sections on:
- Coping strategies for families sheltering in place
- Learning at home – do’s and don’ts for parents
- Ways to stay connected while apart
- Free resources and ideas for family fun
- College students – what now?
- Staying positive and looking ahead
In the first few hours it was made available, this resource guide was downloaded more than 1,000 times, and is quickly garnering praise from parents, teachers, and experts.
“First, I could not put it down. Every article was on point and exactly what I needed to hear. Second, as a teacher, I can’t recommend enough your section, Learning at Home. As a mother of a high school freshman and a college freshman, you are my hero of the year!” commented Ada Milka-Wood, via Instagram.
And Dr. John Duffy, Psychologist and parenting expert praised the magazine, saying that “It’s a brilliant, necessary issue.”
Sharon Holbrook, managing editor, feels proud that the resource is having a positive impact. “We are so grateful to hear from so many in the Your Teen community that they are finding this special issue helpful. It’s always our goal to be there with the best support and expert advice we can offer to parents of teens.”
