Our Story

Publisher/Managing Editor, Stephanie Silverman & Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, Susan Borison
We welcome you to Your Teen Magazine – a parenting magazine for parents of teens.
Your Teen developed out of need. We were wondering how we would ever acquire competence and expertise to raise our teens? We were finding that the parenting tools we developed while raising infants, toddlers and youth were no longer applicable as we entered the stage of parenting adolescents. While we did find comfort in the availability of professional help and the abundance of parenting books, we believed that one critical resource was being overlooked – other parents. We wondered, “How do other parents manage?”
One of our biggest struggles as parents is to distinguish between normal behavior and problematic behavior. When concerning behavior becomes an obvious problem, many parents solicit intervention from experts. And when worry turns to crisis, most parents seek professional help. But how can parents determine whether the daily struggles of adolescence are normal?
At Your Teen, we believe that critical information can be learned from the experiences of other parents. However, we know that many parents are reluctant to share their fears and perceived failures. Your Teen creates a vehicle for these discussions and helps parents of teens define some standard of normal. Your Teen provides personal stories about parents navigating the daily challenges of parenting teens.
However, we don’t stop there. We include stories from our subjects – the teens. In addition, we share many professional opinions. With three different perspectives, we hope to create a full picture. But we are missing you. We hope that you will join in the conversation, either on the web, in the print magazine or on our Facebook page.
Subscriptions can be placed at http://yourteenmag.com/subscribe/. The magazine is also available in Barnes & Noble and Border Bookstores throughout Ohio and Joseph Beth Booksellers at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst Ohio.
We hope you enjoy Your Teen!
