I'm only 20, and even though I really didn't do much in my teen years, I still was stressed about certain things. I like how it is said that every teen has different stressors & deals with it differently.

As a high school Junior who participates in all honors and AP classes, maintains a 4.2 GPA, is VP of Student Government, editor of the newspaper, part of mock trial, model united nations, science olympiad, webteam, national honors society, works a job, plays on a rec soccer team, and actively volunteers in many organizations, I can tell you that most stress can be dealt with using proper time management. Although I am at school from 6:50 AM to 8:00 PM, I have time to get everything done and still sleep for at least 5 hours

I found this to be an excellent article in fact I called my 14 year old daughter in and we read it together. We joked about some things just to lighten the load and make the conversation more interesting and less STRESSFUL (smile). I think she really appreciated that short fun yet serious time together.

Thanks

Helping your teen assess their schedule and time management to find waysto alleviate some of the strees is an important first step, but teaching them ways of relieving stress through relaxation techniques, as the ones mentioned in the ariticle, is a critical life skill . High School is only the beginning..

Allowing your child to just vent with no specific solution is also important. For so many years I tried finding the solution, helping organize, giving advice... when sometimes all they want is a shoulder to cry on and RELIEVE stress through venting!!! We're not always superwoman to the rescue. Just a soft place to fall on would be good!

Some times it's hard, when you're a teenager, to see the bigger picture. Your window of life is so narrow. If there's someone older -- who your child looks up to -- that isn't, you know, you -- they can help them to see that its not taking 7 AP classes is not the end of the world and that success is sometimes something that happens outside of the classroom too!
